Silitia is an unclassifiable duo from Bizkaia, formed by Ibai Silicato (Lekeitio, 1997) and Xabier Barrutia (Bilbao, 1999), recently reinvented as a quartet with the addition of Dani Artetxe (Bilbao, 1999) and Adri Lorenzo (Bilbao, 1998). Their music, which they themselves describe as brioche pop, gives equal weight to the live performance and artistic intent. If you ask them about genres, they will tell you they make punky-funky-electro-Basque rock, but above all, Silitia is a multifaceted, constantly evolving project that surprises with every step they take. Their expansive stylistic approach brings together, with remarkable skill, seemingly disparate styles such as electronic music, post-punk, funk, ’80s music, industrial, art rock… all built around clear, radiant melodies in the purest tradition of classic pop. All of this is filtered through an experimental and ironic, sometimes comic, lens, creating multiple layers of meaning in a body of work that grabs you from the very first listen. The result of this seemingly limitless blend of influences means that their songs can sometimes evoke the music you might hear in certain nightclubs, sometimes post-punk ballads, and at other times sophisticated pop.
